Maternal Immunization Awareness: A Nationwide Survey for Better Health Outcomes

Ashi Gupta | 06 Feb, 2025

Maternal and neonatal health heavily relies on timely immunization, yet awareness and implementation vary among healthcare professionals. A leading healthcare company, in collaboration with a fast-growing medical platform, identified a need to evaluate immunization practices among gynecologists. The initiative aimed to assess vaccine preferences, workplace distributions, and the level of awareness regarding maternal immunization.

Given the vast network of gynecologists across metro and Tier 1 cities, there was a need to gather real-time insights efficiently. However, engaging busy medical professionals in a survey posed a challenge.

Designing a Data-Driven Outreach Strategy

The primary objective was to collect responses from 600 gynecologists within a week, ensuring representation from both metro and Tier 1 cities. The survey needed to capture:

  • Awareness levels of key maternal immunization vaccines.
  • Preferred vaccines among gynecologists.
  • Distribution of practice settings (private clinics, hospitals, etc.).
  • The experience levels of participating doctors.

To make the process seamless, a structured questionnaire was developed and converted into a Google Form for easy access. The survey was then promoted via SMS and email, reaching 12,500 registered gynecologists.

Executing the Campaign with Precision

A well-coordinated promotional strategy was implemented:

  • Frequency & Outreach: SMS and email invitations were sent twice a week to maximize engagement.
  • Balanced Targeting: The campaign aimed for a 50-50 split between metro and Tier 1 cities to ensure diverse representation.
  • Comprehensive Data Collection: Responses were recorded systematically, capturing details like HCP names, specializations, and state-wise locations (while maintaining privacy).

As the campaign gained momentum, medical professionals actively participated, providing valuable insights into maternal immunization practices.

Insights That Drive Change

The campaign successfully exceeded its target, gathering 604 responses within one week. The key findings were:

  • 63.2% of gynecologists were aware of the importance of maternal immunization vaccines.
  • 42.7% recommended a widely accepted vaccine, while 33.3% preferred an alternative option.
  • 49% of respondents practiced in private clinics, and 25.8% worked in government hospitals.
  • 82% of responses came from Tier 1 cities, highlighting a need for further outreach in metro and rural areas.
  • Experience distribution varied, with 35% having less than five years of experience and 28.5% falling into the 10-20 year range.

These insights underscored the necessity of continuous education and streamlined immunization protocols to improve maternal and neonatal health outcomes.

A Step Toward Safer Maternal Health

By engaging gynecologists in a structured survey, the campaign successfully shed light on current immunization practices and areas for improvement. The findings emphasized the need for sustained efforts in spreading awareness, refining clinical guidelines, and ensuring widespread adoption of maternal vaccines.

This initiative marks the beginning of a larger movement—one that aims to equip healthcare professionals with the right knowledge to safeguard maternal and newborn health for generations to come.
